Porsche Club BBQ August 2007

On 19th August 2007 911Box held an open day and BBQ for Porsche Club GB Kent Region members.

Thankfully, despite earlier rain and some threatening clouds the weather brightened and remained dry for the afternoon’s festivities.

Italian chef Bruno prepared a superb selection of mouth-watering food, whilst owner Pat Sullivan was put in charge of the bread rolls!

Two very special Porsches were on display for the event. A 1960 Porsche 356(B) T5 car represented the first model to bare the Porsche name whilst a RUF CTR1 ‘Yellowbird’ built by Ruf Engineering represented the ultimate in specialist Porsche tuning.

In 1987 the Ruf CTR1 ‘Yellowbird’ was pitched against 8 of the fastest production sports cars and 3 other Porsche 911’s prepared by other tuning specialists in a contest conducted by Road and Track Magazine. At the end of the day the ‘Yellowbird’ came out the clear winner with a top speed of just under 211mph.

The BBQ culminated with a prize draw for a ride in the Yellowbird driven by 911BOX’s very own , Geoff Henderson. Kent Member Tony Lobley was the lucky winner. Judging by the broad smile on Tony’s face when he returned we think he enjoyed the experience. We understand he was still grinning days later!
